Summary

This medieval or post medieval well was exposed by ploughing and subsequently excavated. The surrounding soil contained post medieval pottery.

Well, exposed by ploughing and subsequently part excavated by farmer.
10m south of north field boundary directly opposite end of north-east to south-west hedge beyond road. Up slight slope from west and north. Top 200mm below present surface. 2m diameter. Massive flint construction with smooth inner face and rough outer face; thickness variable. Fill of dark soil. Sections of trench show 100-200mm topsoil overlies yellow clay, but in east section, rammed clay surface between the two. No dating evidence, surrounding soil produced only late post medieval sherds.
Note cropmarks to north-east (NHER 11544) of possible house sites; (S1) shows linear housing in valley to east.
