Summary

The present Caister Holiday Camp is the site of Britain’s first holiday camp. It was set up in 1906 by Fletcher Dodd and originally consisted of tents. They were later replaced by 'huts' and then former tram carriages. None of these structures survive.

Britain’s first holiday camp in 1906, set up by Fletcher Dodd as a Socialist experiment.
Originally consisted of tents, later huts were added, then old tram bodies from Great Yarmouth. Present structures on site are of more recent origin.
