Summary

In 1970 Saxon pottery sherds and fragments of burnt clay were retrieved from a trench dug between the buildings here. The sherds seemed to be fairly thick in the section from just under the floor to 0.9m below the floor level. The quantity of possible kiln clay, wasters and slag may indicate the presence of a pottery works at this location during the Saxon era.
