Summary

A number of ponds survive in Moor Plantation and are visible on a map dating to 1838. It has been suggested that one or several of these are the remains of a moat, although it is equally possible that they originated as human-made or natural ponds.

Map

Possible moat in Moor Plantation suggested by R. R. Clarke (NCM).
Ordnance Survey say merely a series of water-filled depressions tidied up to form a decoy.

March 1977. Visit.
The wood has been mostly felled, a deep ditch dug around the exterior of the remainder, and the ponds mutilated by ditching and dumping. Impossible to form any conclusions.
E. Rose (NAU).

The Tithe map of 1838 shows the ponds identical to the pattern on the 1959 6in Ordnance Survey map.
E. Rose (NAU) 21 July 1986.

September 2002. Visit.
Further dumping over site. Much dead wood and scrub. Does not resemble a moat today.
H. Paterson (A&E) 11 March 2004.
