Summary

Excavation of this area in 1991-92 recorded 11th-12th century deposits, including a floor surface, pits and a wall. It might be expected that this site would have been used for dumping domestic rubbish from the expanding city, but the paucity of finds make this unlikely. However, the discovery of crucible fragments and metalworking debris may indicate that this area was involved in bronze production at this time.
