Summary

Dredging the River Tas near to Venta Icenorum Roman town (NHER 9786) and fieldwalking and metal detecting on the adjacent field has recovered a wide range of Roman objects including a complete 3rd century cremation jar, a copper alloy head of Mercury with a winged cap and a lead curse tablet. The tablet curses someone who has stolen a long list of items from Brumasius including a pair of leggings. A Mesolithic flint flake and a Middle Saxon penny of Offa minted between AD 784 and 787 were also recovered.
