Summary

Part of a human skeleton, a burnt clay hearth, medieval and post medieval pottery fragments, a piece of cut antler and a medieval needle, brooch and gold ring were found during building works in 1969 and 1970.

1969.
Top half of skeleton about 1.5m (5 feet) from surface, rest in NHER 16; lying east-to-west.
Dehydrated cat found under floor boards during demolition. Cat in NCM Natural History Department.

Burnt clay etc layer found about 1.8 to 2.4 (6 feet to 8 feet) deep during excavations.
Medieval and post medieval pottery and animal bones found including further piece of cut antler. Bronze needle and ring brooch found at front of site.
Burnt area mainly near 9 Bank Plain.

1969 to 1970.
13th century gold ring inscribed AVE MARIA GRATIA PLE from about 30cm (1 foot) deep.
Two medieval sherds said to have been found in same layer.


1969. Continuation north of NHER 16.
Burnt clay layer found at about 1.8 to 2.4m (6 to 8 feet) deep.
Medieval and post medieval pottery and animal bones found including further pieces of cut antler.
Bronze needle and ring brooch found at front of site.
