Description

The Norwich Sites and Monuments Record: a card index of sites and finds accompanied by 6-inch (1:10,560) Ordnance Survey maps used to record locations and supplementary files containing drawings, photographs, and notes. The index is organized alphabetically by street and then by unique site number. This index is based on the Norwich Castle Museum Record Cards (see SNF87206) begun around 1933, which were organized by archaeological period and street. This new card set and new system of numbering was begun in 1973 to meet the needs of the newly formed Norwich Survey. It was continued by Norwich Castle Museum Staff until 1989, when it was integrated with the computerised Norfolk Sites and Monuments Record maintained by the Norfolk Archaeological Unit at Gressenhall.
