Full Description
No 10 St Martin-at-Palace Plain.
Former house now shop. Late 18th century. Rendered with pantile roof. Corner site. Three storeys, two bays. Door to right side with rectangular fanlight and pilasters supporting small hood. Sash windows throughout with glazing bars and plain surrounds; side lights at ground floor. Dentil block cornice, two storey bay window on side with tall lights removed from erroneously-named Calthorpe House. Window is 15th or 16th century and stone with splayed mullions and jambs. Was erected in current location of No 10 in 1971.
During restoration work an almost complete Frechen jug (second half 16th century) was found built into a flint and mortar wall in the east gable wall, at a height of around 2m. [1]
