Summary

This building was an important example of 1960s architecture, formed of concrete and flint panels on a steel frame around a courtyard and incorporating the American Memorial Library. It was under consideration for addition to the list of buildings of historic interest when it was severely damaged by fire in August 1994 and subsequently demolished. The only finds from this site were made during its construction in 1960 when a collection of early medieval pottery sherds and a clay spindle whorl were discovered.
