Summary

In 1974 this site was subject to redevelopment. Archaeological observations noted that the site was disturbed by the construction of 19th century cellars. A number of finds were also reported including medieval and post medieval pottery as well as post medieval clay pipes and a Middle Saxon Ipswich Ware sherd.

Redevelopment on site of Midland Bank. Site very disturbed by 19th century cellars.
Medieval and post medieval pottery (including Brunssen), clay pipes.
Fragment of Mayen lava quern found with a sherd of medieval. Held by NCM.
One Ipswich Ware sherd.

A record card found in the A. Carter archive labelled '18 London Street' has a sketch of a two-bay ?undercroft and a sketch section of an associated brick rib. This source of this information is given as "Photograph NHI - 3649, Local History Library". No date is recorded.
