Summary

In 1972 an excavation took place on this site, which was used as a timber yard by Jewsons and is now a housing development, to investigate the parish boundary of St Clement and St George. Some medieval and post medieval pottery sherds were recovered, as well as a 15th century French jetton.

November 1972. Excavation on the site of ex-Jewsons timber yard (Friars Quay Housing Development) to investigate the nature of the parish boundary between St Clement/St George and the possible site of Friars Lane.
Total disturbance by 19th century makeup down to the natural sand and gravel. Collection of material from building operations.
Medieval and post medieval pottery (including Westerwald, Delft, and a glass bottle).
