Summary

Observations of a trench dug in 1972 noted three undated wooden stakes set into peat and some 19th century pottery fragments.

Trench in roadway between numbers 68 and 70. 4.15m deep.
East section of trench drawn (see J.P. Roberts' notebook). Modern disturbance down to 2.75m, followed by a layer of clay overlying peat.
Set into the peat (at depth of 4.05m) were three wooden stakes. No dateable material (some 19th century pottery in modern makeup not collected).
