Summary

A piece of Late Saxon pottery was found in a trench in 1986. Further trench-digging in 1987 and 1988 uncovered human and animal bones and coffin nails, the area probably being the former burial ground of St George's church.

July 1987 and February 1988. Gas trench made through disturbed soil of earlier water main trench, extending finds as far as Muspole Street corner.
Human and animal bones and coffin nails. Presumably former burial ground of St George's Colegate.
