Summary

In 1976 excavations were carried out here to test the west extent of the Saxo-Norman occupation recorded on Barn Road. The earliest occupation on the site consisted of two large medieval gravel quarries underyling a thick deposit of post medieval soil.

1976. A 7m x 2m trench (machine dug) was excavated by M.W.Atkin for the Norwich Survey, courtesy of St Benedict's Garage Ltd.
The excavation was designed to test the west extent of the Saxo-Norman occupation recorded on Barn Road by Jope and Hurst. The earliest occupation on the site consisted of two large ?medieval gravel quarries underyling a thick deposit of post medieval ?garden soil.
One sherd of Delft found.
