Map

October 2002. Norfolk NMP.
The earthworks are confined within an almost circular area, defined by a drainage ditch and with an opening to the north-east (S1). This probably started life as a meander in a saltmarsh channel, although the shape does appear to have been deliberately maintained. The majority of the ridges and furrows are aligned in an approximately north-west to south-east direction, while within a smaller area to the north-east they are aligned in an approximately north to south direction. The ridges and furrows are narrow and relatively straight. The area was probably saltmarsh, and utilised for the salt production industry up until the late medieval period. These features probably post-date the sea defence banks to the west and are probably Post Medieval in date.
The features have been ploughed flat by 1966 (S2).
M. Brennand (NMP), 18 October 2002.
