Civil Parish SOUTH WOOTTON, WEST NORFOLK, NORFOLK

Map

October 2002. Norfolk NMP.
This feature was likely to have originally been one large mound although there is a drain visible (S1) cutting through the mound, which has divided it in two. The mound is sub-rounded to irregular in plan, with a north to south length of 155m and a maximum width of 55m.
The feature probably forms part of the dense concentration of saltern mounds located along the saltmarsh in North and South Wootton. Direct dating evidence is scarce but isolated finds of pottery would suggest that the majority of the mounds are medieval in date.
M. Brennand (NMP) 24 October 2002.
