Summary

During a 2003 walkover survey two posts were identified. They were probably related to two nearby post alignments (NHER 38209 and 41645). Although the date and function of the posts is uncertain, they were probably part of a fish trap or trackway.

Location

Map sheet TF74NW
Civil Parish HOLME NEXT THE SEA, WEST NORFOLK, NORFOLK

February to March 2003. NAU survey.
Two posts were discovered. They were probably related to a northeast to southwest alignment of five posts to the southwest (NHER 38209). If so they would have been part of the same monument, perhaps a fish trap, fence or trackway. Alternatively the two clusters may have been two distinct features.
(S1)-(S2).
J. Allen (NLA), 23 April 2003.

September 2003. Site visit.
Both posts observed. Beach surface around monument has been eroded (by 0.03-0.04m) July to September 2003.
D. Robertson (NAU), 21 October 2003.

February 2004.
Northernmost post 0.09 proud, compared to 0.12m in September 2003. Southernmost post 0.09m proud, compared to 0.12m in September 2003. Appears to have been some accumulation of sediment around, although scours have formed around each of the posts. Both posts were sampled for radiocarbon dating and species identification. Unfortunately neither was suitable for radiocarbon dating.
D. Robertson (NLA), 26 May 2006.
