Full Description
July 2003. NMP.
Large group of linear banks visible on RAF aerial photographs from 1946 (S1) and centred on TF 6357 1889. The western extent of the site is characterised by a curvilinear bank that runs along the Pierpoint Drain to the north. The bank is depicted as a continuous structure on the 2nd edition map (1902-7, 25in) (S2). However the earthwork was visible in a fragmentary form from TF 62936 18710 to TF 63406 19107. Along one section, 200m, the drain is flanked to the south also by two irregular stretches of bank.
To the west another bank runs alongside a drain that links up with the Middleton Stop Drain, from TF 63433 18997 to TF 63406 19107. The remnants of two further parallel banks come off this feature to the east. The more northerly of the two runs from TF 63591 19063 to TF 63808 18963. The southern section consists of a stretch of bank running from TF 62583 19027 to TF 63765 18920. The line of this feature is possibly continued to the east by a much broader bank, up to 14m wide, with associated ditches, running from TF 63787 18895 to TF 64059 18705. This linear feature seems roughly consistent with field boundaries and drains depicted on the 2nd edition map (1902-7, 25in) (S2). Several parallel linear ditches are also visible to the north of this, although these are also likely to be associated with drainage.
The banks and ditches recorded under this site may represent several phases of construction and enclosure. However generally they are likely to date from the medieval- post-medieval periods.

Google Earth images suggest these features have been ploughed level.
