Summary

In 2004 the Norfolk Rapid Coastal Survey observed a series of mounds and hollows, which may relate to salt working or brick production, along with a number of sea defence or land reclamation banks and ditches and several quarries.

Land based fieldwork phase of the Norfolk Rapid Coastal Survey.
Area A71; grazing marsh, drainage channels and reed beds.
Features observed included a series of mounds and hollows, possibly used for salt working or brick making. The area is labelled 'Brick Marsh' on a map of 1769, see (S1). A number of ditches and banks relate to drainage and land reclamation, or possibly ridge and furrow.
Area A72; known locally as 'Friary Hills', undulating grass and scrub.
Several possible quarries, and pieces and medieval and post medieval roof tile were found.
