Map

April 2002. Norfolk NMP.
A possible post medieval extractive site is visible on aerial photographs (S1). The date and archaeological origin of this feature is not definite, although extraction of some sort seems the most likely interpretation. The area of this site is very irregular in shape, measuring approximately 110m by 60m. It has a fin-like extension to the north. The surface of the ground appears to be covered with a series narrow ridges and banks arranged in a fan-like pattern. These are very closely set. The cause and function of these features is not known. They have a similar appearance to lazy bedding, but the curvilinear shape and setting makes this unlikely. The fan-like array of ridges may relate to the method of extraction, where the ground surface has been scraped by some method.
S. Massey (NMP), 16th April 2002.
