Summary

A small, sub rectangular enclosure of unknown date is visible as a cropmark on an aerial photograph. It may be the same site as that recorded as NHER 11648. Various interpretations are possible. It might, for example, mark the site of a prehistoric ceremonial or funerary enclosure; clusters of probable Bronze Age round barrows have been identified 1.25km to the north (NHER 29628) and 1km to the northeast (NHER 11651), indicating the siting of funerary monuments in this area in the prehistoric period. Alternatively, it might have a more mundane and/or recent origin, perhaps as a medieval or post medieval sheepfold, for example. It is surrounded by the fragmentary cropmarks of undated ditch segments (NHER 27464). The ditch that forms or joins its southern side may have been a contemporary feature, as may other nearby ditch fragments.

Map

March 2006. Norfolk NMP.
A small, sub rectangular enclosure is visible as a cropmark on an aerial photograph (S1), centred at TG 4666 1745. Its date and function are not known. Although it is visible on only one aerial photograph, the cropmark is convincing as an archaeological feature. The south side of the enclosure is formed by, or closely adjacent to, a linear ditch (part of NHER 27464) which may have been a contemporary feature. The ditch is also undated.

The enclosure is sub rectangular in shape and measures 15.5m long and 10.5m wide. It should be noted that due to a lack of suitable control points the photograph could not be rectified fully and this may have affected the accuracy of the mapping.
