Map

March 2008. Norfolk NMP.
The cropmarks, earthworks and soilmarks of a series of medieval to post medieval field and property boundaries are visible on aerial photographs to the north of Tottenhill Row (S1-S3). Finds of a medieval date have been recovered from within the area of the site (NHER 23202). A rectangular enclosure is located towards the south of the site, although it is probable that this represents a stock or agricultural enclosure, rather than anything relating to former settlement. However finds of a medieval date have been recovered from within the area of the site (NHER 23202).The lines of some of these boundaries are depicted by lines of trees on the first edition Ordnance Survey map (1890), but the actual boundaries have been removed by this date. None of these features were mapped as part of the NMP project, as it was felt that none of the feature represented an enclosure pattern that differed from that still in existence in the surrounding landscape, such as to the immediate north of the site. It would appear that all the earthwork features have been plough levelled since the 1940s.
S. Massey (NMP), 05 March 2008.
