Full Description
January 2007. Earthwork Rapid Identification Survey.
Oak Wood Site 16:
An irregular pit and a linear depression were identified during an earthwork survey of Oak Wood, Crackling Hill, and Sheringham Wood. The pit is depicted on Ordanace Survey maps, incluidng the First Edition map (S2). The ditch leads to the pit from the south and is terraced into an east-facing slope. Its width varies from 3m to 7m and it survives to a depth of 1m. The ditch is likely the remains of a former boundary of Oak Wood. No dating evidence was recovered, but the extraction pit appears to truncate the boundary.
Information from (S1).
