Summary

An area of potential ancient woodland within Sheringham Park (NHER 22881). Several remants of the previous wood boundary were identified during an earthwork survey in 2007 as well as several extraction pits and a variety of features relating to installation of World War Two defenses within the wood (NHER 38264). While the date of the wood remains uncertain, two of the banks identified may be of medieval date.

In 1992 English Nature identified Oak Wood as an area of potential ancient woodland.

January 2007. Earthwork Rapid Identification Survey.
Oak Wood Sites 1-23.
A rapid earthwork survey of Oak Wood revealed several possible remnants of the previous wood boundary (NHER 51349, NHER 51351, NHER 51352, NHER 51356) as well as possible extraction pits (NHER 51350, NHER 51351, NHER 51353, NHER 51354, NHER 51355) and evidence of World War Two defense installations (see NHER 38264).
