Summary

An L-shaped ditch identified during an earthwork survey of Oak Wood in 2007. This ditch has been interpreted as remnants of a former woodland boundary, likely re-dug by the military during the installation of World War Two defenses (NHER 38264).

Oak Wood Site 21:
An L-shaped ditch was identified during a rapid earthwork surve yof Oal Wood, Cracking Hill, and Sheringham Wood. The east-west section of the ditch has both internal and external banks, while the north-south section appears to have only an external bank. It reaches a maximum width of 3.5m and the the external banks measure up to 3.5m wide and 0.6m high. The feature has been interpreted as a section of a former woodland boundary which was likely re-dug by the military during the installation of World War Two defenses (NHER 38264).
