Summary

A gravel road or trackway is visible on aerial photographs. The feature has been interpreted as a trackway branching off from the Icknield Way (NHER 1398), prompting some 19th century antiquarians to argue (incorrectly) that the Icknield Way went to Norwich.

Old gravel road seen from air by H.T. Green 1934, TL 8885 8478 to TL 8872 8430, continues line of Green Lane, which may be an old trackway branching from main Icknield Way at Fords, called Clover Lane in 1837.
