Full Description
February 2011. Norfolk NMP.
The earthworks (now levelled) and cropmarks of a medieval to post medieval road or trackway from Thetford to Rushford across Snarehill Heath are visible on aerial photographs (S1-S3). The line of the road is depicted on Faden’s map of 1797 (S4), but has been removed by the time of the Ordnance Survey first edition map (1889 to 1891) (S5). The western section of this route survives as a trackway across the heath. A short section of road (NHER 54563) mapped from aerial photographs leading from the medieval collegiate site (NHER 6092) at Rushford to the east is likely to represent part of the same route.
S. Horlock (NMP), 16 February 2011.
