Summary

Possible traces of ridge and furrow, cultivation or plantation ridges, probably of post-medieval date, are visible as earthworks on imagery from a recent lidar survey. They may have been created during short-lived arable cultivation of heathland, or to grow fodder crops for rabbits. Alternatively, they might have been created to aid the establishment of forestry plantations. A post-medieval date is likely for all these processes, and is also suggested by the straightness and narrowness of the ridges, but an earlier origin cannot be ruled out. Equally, a more modern origin relating to forestry is also possible.

Some of the boundary banks and ditches crossing and surrounding the site (part of NHER 61991) may be contemporary.
