Full Description
1977. Restoration. On site of Alms houses dating back at least to the 14th century.
Earliest surviving walling is 16th/17th century.
Shallow trenches cut through the floor levels suggested a sequence similar to that found on building A4 on site NHER 302 (south side Alms Lane).
The 18th/19th century floors had been mounted on brick dwarf walls and the space loosely filled. Remains of clay floors could be seen beneath.
17th century pottery recovered from a pipe trench in yard of buildings.
Included about twenty sherds of lead glazed earthenware and Manganese ware.
M. Atkin (NCM).
Almshouses in Muspole Street, Norwich, bequeathed by Alice Crome in 1516, were not endowed by the founder (S1) consequently they fell into disrepair and were taken over by the parish officers.
Information from linked thematic record.
M. Dennis (NLA), 2 August 2007.
